I grew up in Burnaby and learned to use my creativity from my mom who also loved Interior Design and was always doing or making something. My father instilled in me a good working ethic which I practiced every Saturday morning doing chores and baking for the household.
I was brought up with the idea that gifts were something someone gave from their heart, and they were to be appreciated and recognized by the giver. I always loved making sure I got a gift for someone that would fit them, was unique, and well thought out.
As I grew up, I enjoyed my creativity in Cake Decorating, became a Certified Floral Designer as well as completed courses in Interior Design and Colour Consulting. With all my bits and pieces of learning and information I decided with the help of a friend to open a gift basket design business. It was challenging but rewarding to see a gift come together and to deliver it to someone and watch the look on their face when they took it from my arms. We needed money to move forward and spread our wings but unfortunately at that time my partner decided to leave the business. I debated long and hard on what I should do continue building the business or just pack it in myself.
I decided I needed some help from the industries mentors, so I attended more seminars, went to more trade shows. Now with even more information and confidence, I set out on a slightly curvier path which led me to new ventures a new business owning a health food store and more schooling, but the gift design kept on coming back to me. I would get a call from someone in another province needing a basket or customized gift or someone asking me if I still had the business because they wanted one of my designed creations.
I had now become a Certified Interior Designer and Colour Consultant. My first job was for myself, and I had the opportunity to design and build my own studio space something I had always dreamed of since I was a little girl. I remember when I pressured my father to build me my own treehouse or clubhouse when I was little.
Hibiscus Home is situated around two of the beautiful purple Hibiscus trees that adorn the property. My love for Hawaii and all my time spent there and surrounded by exotic beautiful flowers Hence contributed to where Hibiscus came from, and my memories shared with my family in the home my Dad built and I grew up in was the deciding factor for naming the business Hibiscus Home.
I am now happy to announce that I offer interior and exterior design as well as colour consultations. I also offer gifting ideas, custom designed gifts, baskets, and boxes. I love researching products, buying locally when I can and finding the perfect gift, basket, or box for the receiver. I take pride in knowing the receiver will get something that is “Too Nice to Open”.
